Re: Low frame rates while playing games

Your video card is somewhat underpowered for one. How much RAM do you have
and what processor? But, a video card upgrade would defintely speed things
up. Half Life is a pretty demanding game for graphics.

Hope this helps.

Re: Low frame rates while playing games

Buy new Graphiccard! The rest sounds ok, but many games need good Card. If
you want sth that is good for now and later buy a Nvidia GeForce 8 card.

Hey Talvos,

You have a good system, but your video card is not for gaming. Integrated
video cards just don't do gaming as well as a dedicated video card.

Fortunatly I think I know what system you're using even though you didn't
post your HP model number (cough, cough), and you have a PCI-Express slot in
your system, you just have to go to your favorite retailer and look into
buying a video card. If you talk to someone, tell them what game you want to
run and what system you have, and see if they have a recommendation.

I would recommend an nVidia 8600 or 8800 (whatever you can afford), don't go
lower than 8600. Amount of RAM on the card doesn't really matter, but you'll
more than likely get 512 or 320megs. Just make sure the box says PCI-Express
somewhere on it and not AGP.

Slap that bad boy in your box, or find a friend who knows what he's doing to
help, get the latest drivers from nVidia.com and try the game again.

For now though if you want to improve your framerate, drop your resolution
in the game down to like 800x600 and adjust the advanced settings down a
little bit, or make sure they are all at default. Turn off stuff like
Anti-Aliasing, it's nice, but takes a lot of processing power.

If you want to go with an ATi card, the 2600 HD is a good choice too. (Valve
preferred, and less compatibility issues with most games)
