No shut down options or power off button

hi
in vista's start menu, the arrow beside the lock only gives 3 options:
switch user, log off and lock. why is there no shut down or sleep/hibernate
option here? i need to log off to reach a shut down option.
can i get a shut down option to appear when i click on the arrow?
Also there is no power off button?
I do not have the (change power saving settings options) in the Power
options screen?

any ideas?
Brett

Re: No shut down options or power off button

Start | Move your mouse over to the right hand arrow for additional options.

Hi Brett,

I do not know how to solve your problem, but this tutorial will show you how to create a shutdown shortcut for the mean time until someone can give you a solution. Look at the related links for shortcuts for the other options as well.

Shutdown shortcut

Hope this helps,

Re: No shut down options or power off button

I thought he wrote that he only had 3 options in there?

Re: No shut down options or power off button

You're right, of course. I mis-interpreted the post. (-:

Re: No shut down options or power off button

Hold Windows Key and Press R.

Type Regedit and press enter.

In the list on the left go to;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER
>Software
>>Microsoft
>>>Windows
>>>>CurrentVersion
>>>>>Policies

Then right-click on all of the
DWORDS in "system" and "explorer"
and select

"Modify..."

Change the values to 0 and
restart your PC.

Shutdown button has returned!
