CHKDSK Not getting started

Hi,

In my laptop when i try to create a restore point or try to defrag the
drive then it says that some of the files are corrupt it promts to run
"Chkdsk" but when i run the "chkdsk /F" as admistrator then it
schedules it for next time when system restarts as volume is being used
by other program and also drive c: is marked as "Dirty" which when i try
to reset using the 'Chkntfs /D" and then scheduling the chkdsk using
"ChkDSK /C C:" then also the ckkdsk is not running.....

Can anyone help me out as i am not able to create a restore point and
also do the defragmentation of the main drive......

Thanks

Deepak

I had the same problem yesterday ... follow simple instructions obtained in
your "Start > Help and Support for CHKDSK" ... but, Be Patient ... it took
my laptop over six hours to complete the CHKDSK ... often appearing like
nothing was happening ... after that ... everything was OK, and back to
normal...

Enjoy!

p.s. ..."often appearing like nothing was happening"... I mean the laptop
displayed a Black Screen for the six hour duration ... and the activity
light often did not appear that anything was happening ... I waited it out
.... and the CHKDSK completed, and my computer automatically restarted
normally...

Enjoy!

Re: CHKDSK Not getting started

Chkdsk is run by the autochk.exe system file. When this file becomes corrupt
you can't run chkdsk in a Fix mode. Run System File Check. Often SFC can
identify and fix corrupt system files (in this case autochk.exe). When SFC
can't fix the files, it at least identifies the specific files that are
corrupted in CBS.log. This tutorial will help you run SFC.

If there are corrupt files that SFC could not fix, the next step is to go to
CBS.log and write down the file names. Then go to your Vista Install DVD and
copy good files from your DVD to replace corrupt files on your system. This
tutorial will help you access your DVD files.

Access Vista Install DVD Files

If this doesn't help, there are other repair options from Startup Repair
through a Clean Reinstall of Vista.

Re: CHKDSK Not getting started

These Vista Repair Options will help you get started. I should have the
Access Vista Install DVD Files updated in a day or two. Once this is done
I'll send you the link to the update; I'm hoping it will be easier to work
through.
