remove color scheme

How do I remove color schemes from the Appearance settings?

I have several Windows Aero and Vista Basic entries some of which don't work (I think it was because I tried patching the uxtheme.dll and the msstyle after which I installed other themes). It's just an annoyance now since those extra entries don't even work. Thanks.

Re: remove color scheme

I am not sure I understand, but are you referring to Vista's Window Color
and Appearance built in Color schemes? If so, no, those cannot be removed.
If they are malfunctioning, try doing a system restore to an earlier point
in time before you started experiencing the present problem.

Re: remove color scheme

Yea, they are the built-in color schemes. I somehow installed extra ones which are now permanently in there. I can't system restore since I did this too long ago. Thanks anyway man.

Re: remove color scheme

Jim,

You might try running the "Sfc /scannow" (no quotes) command to see if it will solve your problem.

See: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66...tem-files.html

If that does not help you might try the "Repair Install" option. See related link 1 at the same site.

Hope it helps,
Shawn

Can you explain the difference between the "sfc /scannow" and the "sfc /verifynow"?

Re: remove color scheme

Wow, thanks a lot. I just tried the "sfc /scannow" and it got rid of the unwanted color scheme entries. It also seemed to have sped my computer up. Do you think it'd be okay to run this once a month along with other system maintenence tasks I perform?

Your welcome Jim,

"sfc /scannow" - Scans the integrity of all protected system files and repairs the system files if needed.

"sfc /verifyonly" - Scans and only verifies the integrity of all proteced system files only. There is no "sfc /verifynow"

I do not think you would gain any performance benefit from it, but it would not hurt anything to run SFC once a month. SFC is meant to be a repair tool though, not a maintenance tool.
