Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

Hi there, i reported a few errors in past threads (search forum for my
username to see (goorambatman))

I have just done an clean install (yes there is a way to do it if you only
own an upgrade copy of Vista). Any way, i have done a clean install,
reinstalled all my previous software (anti-vires, all avaliable windows
updates then Vista SP1 Beta).

Alwayse use a clean install!

Any way now i am finally expierencing the WOW!

I highly recommend every one do a clean install of vista, first thing run
Windows update, download all updates, then install SP1 Beta, then Anti-virus
and other security software then hardware manufacturer
software/drivers/updates.

I am yet to install Nero and test to see if the Online Live OneCare Safety
Scanner works.

I will report back to this post as a comment on how things went with
installing Nero and Safety Scanner.

Vista is now delivering!

Re: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

I agree with everthing you said save one point.

One care.

Its total garbage.

I suggest NOD32. A-Squared and spybot used with the vista firewall control.

Light on the system. Big on protection. And works with x64.

Glad to hear everything is working fine.

ANd fell free to use Nero 8. I works fine as well.

Good luck.

RE: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

What you have done has always been the correct way to do things, including
SPs.

That way, there is no hassles, and files are contiguous, or as contiguous as
they can be!!!!

For anti-virus, try Avast Free 4 Home; low resources use, and also 64bit
compatible, if needed.

Yep, I have McAfee security center and just installed nero 8. All works
brilliantly!

The OneCare that i was talking about was the online scanner, not the actual
program.

I also use Spyware Doctor, i find its pretty good.

Re: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

Just for my own info, What is wrong with OneCare ?
I get it free with my Qwest DSL.
Maybe I am using the wrong Virus scanner , I used to use AVG and had no
problems. And no problems now YET.
Thanks

Re: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

OneCare, AVG(not sure about avast) Have always rated(or not rated) very low in the av-comparatives. Basicly they suck! People that say they have been using them for years and had no problems really mean, I use them because they are free and whatever did get on their system never made itself blatently known to them. Just because they found nothing dosent mean nothing was there. Yes you could say that about any AV but when you use an AV like NOD32 whick rates as catching 98% of all known and unknown treats snd onecare and AVG miss so many in the test that they are flat not recomended you should get the better rated product. In the internet today there are more pitfalls then anything else and your security needs to be the best you can get.

Onecare dosent even rate it missed so many test viruses.

Neither did AVG.

The top 3 were NOD32(my fav).

Gdata and Kaspersky.

Re: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

well I haven't actually installed OneCare, just tryed to run the online
scanner. I haven't got a preference on onecare but as far as i know spyware
doctor and spy sweeper are the best in spyware. Notron and McAfee rank
pretty highly amongst vrus scanners. What ever software detects the most is
the best i suppose.

Id definatly recommend a a reputable anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-adware
and firewall as well as using window's firewall and defender if you are
serious on security.

Re: Problems solved, I have nothing to report!

You should avoid Norton and McAfee as well. Norton sucks almost as bad as Onecare and will slow your system down slower then evolution. And McAfee just dosent detect very well and its firewall is very leaky.
