| | System Restore Won't Complete??? I create manual restore points. When I attempt to do a system restore on one of these points, the screen that says that files and settings are being retored, will never complete, with a restart of the PC and the restore point in efffect. Anybody else having problems? I have my Norton protection of programs unchecked, BTW. I have not tried the restore yet from an automatically created restore point. Expect the same problem. What's up with this? I have not been impressed with Vista yet . . . . . |

| | Re: System Restore Won't Complete??? No, nothing to do with Norton. I am using the built in Restore function for Vista. There used to be a problem getting restore to work in XP if one of the Norton IS settings was checked (the protection of their product being changed). I have that unchecked. You may have to completely uninstall Norton before the System Restore will function correctly. Maybe you would have better results if you boot to Safe Mode and run System Restore from there. | | Re: System Restore Won't Complete??? Ok, so I have tried System Restore in Safe mode. Same problem. I wait an hour and it stays running on the screen that says Restoring Files and Settings, System Restore is Initializing. The little arrow that goes around and round indicating that something is processing is working all the time. There is really no hard drive activity that is going on after the first few minutes. I got Norton out of the loop. What the flip is wrong with System Restore? I even disabled System Restore for my C drive and then re-enabled it, so as to blow away all the previos restore points and start fresh. No luck. Nobody else having this problem? Does system restore take longer than an hour and I am not waiting long enough before I power down to get out of it? Never worked that way in XP. I have had too many issues with Vista I am not a fan at the moment. Thanks for any further help . . . | | Re: System Restore Won't Complete??? Guess what.? Same hang-up with System Restore when I run it from the recovery console. What the flip is wrong with this? No work in normal, in safe mode, or in recovery environment. Do I maybe have a peripheral attached that can keep this puppy from working? Any further help with my woes? Can the system restore function be reinstalled on Windows Vista? | | Re: System Restore Won't Complete??? Update - with no success. I disabled (unattached) all my peripherals (to include an external Iomega hard drive) to see if something hardware related was hanging this system restore operation up. To no avail, just hangs again (normal, safe mode, and recovery environment). I don't know what to do from here. I have exhausted all my options. The system does successfully create the restore points (automatic and manual). "Dreanmachine" wrote: Quote: > Guess what.? Same hang-up with System Restore when I run it from the recovery > console.
