    Learn From Mac

Tomorrow Mac OSX Leopard will be released and when i see the videos, i think
how microsoft, the biggest software company can release this slow, ugly,
unfinished operating system, Mac OSX look like a mature product, with a lot
of featured than should be in windows vista, Mac OSX is very more friendly
than vista and more closer to Longhorn concept than vista.... if Mac OSX
could be run in a PC i don't think twice...

I feel dissapointed again... Learn from Mac and give us a good product

I'm a .NET Programmer, Windows User about ten years...

Well, everyone is free to think what they want about Windows, but bashing
without thorough research and analysis is not the right approach. I think
Leopard is a solid upgrade that offers some nifty features, I personally
like Quick Preview, Time Machine and improvements to the Finder. Time
Machine is really cool because of inviting user interface and the visual
cues it gives users and the 123 approach to getting persons to backup.

I can't give any comment on the Mac/Windows debate. Macs are a niche market here in South Africa, and are notoriusly expensive (Assuming we're lucky enough to even find a retailer that stocks Mac hardware). So I've never used a Mac.

As I'm always looking for something new to learn, I'd like to see a version of Mac OSX that will run on my current hardware, even if only to be able to gauge which is more suitable to a particular task.

From what I heard from someone running the BETA, Leopard is not finished!
Lots of unfixed bugs. No, I hope MS learns anything from Apple. Leopard is
still OSX. They're releasing an upgrade and charge people for it. What a
    scam!

Psst: Microsoft wrote most of the code that runs on a Mac.

If time machine works as stated in that articale then it is not a safe
    backup program.
Murphy says that you will lose power or crash the machine in the middle of a
backup not execute a controlled shutdown.
What happens then.. the file systems might be corrupted to start with and
    you lose your backup.
If it is going to work you need more than one external disk and you need to
keep them in step even though they must never be connected at the same time.
It doesn't look like time machine does that so it is not a primary backup.
BTW I use Memeo on my PC and it does a similar function without the graphics
    and to external network locations.

Mac OS X uses a Journaled file system which is designed for such scenarios
    you mentioned.

    On external drives?

BTW a journaled files system may avoid the need to do a fsck but it doesn't
stop the data being inconsistent when an application come to use it.
If the system fails to write all the data the application asked to be
written then it is quite possible for that application to fail even though
the journaling prevents file system coruption (seen it happen and had to
explain it to programmers like Adam who always think they know better).
