Documents Files Missing after reboot

I have a Vista Ultimate PC in which I copied all document files from a
Windows XP machine to the Vista Userocuments folder. This PC is on a
network and logs in to a domain. Everything copies fine and seems okay until
I reboot as everything is missing that I just copied. I'm logging back in
with the same username and have doen it several times with the same result. I
also have Office XP which acts as if I'm a new user after every reboot. I'm
probably missing something simple...but having trouble finding it. Any
suggestions?

Re: Documents Files Missing after reboot

Office XP is not certified as compatible with Windows Vista, only
recommendation is to apply the latest updates or upgrade to Office 2003 with
SP3 or Office 2007. As for the disappearing files, are you sure the files
weren't copied to a local account since you seem to be logging on to a
Domain? Check the different Documents folder under
C:\Users\account_name\documents

Another suggestion:
Try doing a search of the files on your file server/domain (if you haev
folder redirection) or the entire hard disk to confirm that your files are
gone.

Re: Documents Files Missing after reboot

It turns out the account I was using was being classified as a "temporary"
account. I ended up turning "User Account control" off and then it showed as
a "local" account and everything was fine. Is there a way this will work
with it turned on? Thanks!

Re: Documents Files Missing after reboot

Hi,

The existance of the temporary user folder indicates some corruption of the
real user profile. In these cases, you need to create a new profile for
yourself and copy data from the old one into it. You will not be able to
recover the old one.
