    menu bar

i turned on the classic menu bar by going organise-layout-menubar but when i
now deselect this option the menu bar stays there. i agree with the majority
that it just looks out of place plus the options are already available which
renders it useless really. any ideas on how to remove?

also after upgrading to vista my touchpad on my vaio notebook no longer
scrolls (moving finger up/down on the far right of touchpad) up and down. any
suggestions how to turn this feature on?

pressing the alt key just highlights the menu bar. it does not remove it.

Try to disable it in Tools > Settings or Properties.

First, check out the settings in Control Panel > Hardware and Sound >
Mouse > Device tab. If there is no option to enable scrolling there, you
can reinstall the driver/software for the touchpad. It can be downloaded
from your computer manufacturer's support pages.
