Office XP 2002 - Outlook & AOL

So far all I've gotten on this is MS & AOL pointing fingers at each other.
Can someone help? Numerous times, I've set up an E-mail Account in Outlook
for AOL. Everything seems to work fine but I cannot Send from Outlook. I
consistently get the following message:

! Task 'imap.aol.com - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC78) : Unable to send
the message. Please verify the email address in your account properties. The
server responded: 556 client authentication required. Use ESMTP EHLO and
AUTH.'

Unfortunately for this you might have to contact AOL to ask what code 556
specifically means. The one thing I would consider is to see if you have
authentication set for sending messages as well. Check your Server
properties for Outgoing Mail, and use the same log in for receiving mail.

RE: Office XP 2002 - Outlook & AOL

Office XP Outlook 2002 has one problem; namely, it will not remember your
email account password.
And check your outgoing mail server address.

Re: Office XP 2002 - Outlook & AOL

Looks like you have the wrong Outgoing server name..
The AOL IMAP and SMTP server addresses are:

* imap.aol.com (port 143)
* smtp.aol.com (port 587)

RE: Office XP 2002 - Outlook & AOL

I have it working for the moment. It required checking "Log on using ..."
instead of "Use same settings ..." on the Outgoing Server tab. This IS NOT
what either MS or AOL instructs.
