Drive letter assignment

Can anyone help? reinstalled vista after getting rid of dual boot with xp and
reformatting hard drive. For some reason vista's allocated drive letter I
instead of C to the boot Drive and drive C to my data Drive. Changed data
drive to D in disk management, but wont allow me to change I to C because
boot drive. Can I correct this with out having to reformat and re-install?

Re: Drive letter assignment

Hi,

You cannot change drive letters assigned to designated system or boot
volumes without starting from scratch or until that volume no longer has one
of those designations. If Vista is installed to C: and you move the system
designation from I: to C:, you will then be able to to reletter that volume.
To do so, you would need to work from the recovery environment after
changing the active partition in disk management.
