Vista - Windows Desktop Search shortcut functionality not available in Win

I'm using Windows Desktop Search in Windows XP. I find the shortcuts feature
so useful, I will not migrate to Windows Vista until I can figure out how to
preserve the same functionality. However, It doesn’t appear to be there in
Windows Vista. That make Windows XP a better operating system for me.

For example, I can create a shortcut to a folder in Windows Desktop Search
by typing @b,d:\batchfiles in the Windows Desktop Search search box. Then I
can simply type "b" in the box and my folder opens. This is really useful and
saves buckets of time, as you can adapt the shortcuts to quickly open any
location, program, or file.

However, this functionality does not appear to be available in the Windows
Vista Windows Search feature. Or maybe I just can't find it?

Yes, this functionality isn't exactly in Vista {the indexing service itself
is the same between Vista and WDS 3, but the UI is different}. I find the
search box in the Start Menu on Vista to be extremely useful for launching
app and folers / documents - I think if you hit start and typed "bat" you
would see your folder come up in the Start Menu and be launchable from
there.

I do know that Brandon Paddock, who like me works in the search team at MS
has written an add-on called Start++ that supports some similar
functionality to the WDS taskbar:

This isn't an official Microsoft download or anything, it's just something
he made in his spare time, but a lot of people think it is pretty cool.
