Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder. (Because of possible folder
corruption or other errors.)
Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.
Rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder:
a. Click Start, click Run, type %systemroot%, and then click OK.
b. Right-click the SoftwareDistribution folder, and then click Rename.
c. Type SoftwareDistribution.old, and then press ENTER to rename this
folder.
Create a new folder called "SoftwareDistribution"
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.
Rerun Windows Update.

Thanks for the explanation below. However, when the Services window pop out,
I do not find the SoftwareDistribution folder. I have scrolled up and down
but could not find it.
Please help (cry)

Some how, I have managed to rename the SoftwareDistribution folder located in
C:/Windows while in safe mode. I have rename it to "SoftwareDistribution.old"
as suggested and then restarted the laptop.
Once restarted in "Normal Mode", I click Windows Update and I was prompted
by the same error code 80072F76.
Please I really need help here
Note: I have also written to ASUS but it is not the hardware problem and
suggested me to contact Microsoft for further help.
