A patch for Windows Vista

I don't suppose you know when a service patch is going to become available
for Windows Vista?

Meanwhile, I have spoken to my PC Vendor about this. He advises against
upgrading until that patch becomes available. For now, and rather not to
cause offence, I'd rather decline to recount the reason for his advice
against upgrading.

Re: A patch for Windows Vista

Microsoft is always striving to improve the quality of their products.
Windows Update is one of the great examples of this effort, since its
implementation, Microsoft has continually improved the service to deliver
improved experience for Windows, software and hardware devices. Windows
Vista SP1 is currently in testing as of this writing. It is expected to be
released sometime in the first quarter of 2008.

So, JJ, are you telling us that for the next five or six months those of us who were unfortunate enough to "upgrade" to this new OS are going to more or less be without a reliable computer system? Helluva way to run a railroad, wouldn't you agree?Default PLESK Page]

"...are you telling us that..."
I never said any such thing.

If your computer is unreliable, you need to search for the actual
issue.
Expecting a Service Pack to do that is not reasonable unless your
specific issue is addressed by the Service Pack.

Re: A patch for Windows Vista

The same updates you are getting 'now' are the same ones you will be getting
Service Pack 1 for Vista. Vista is very reliable, since RTM, its just that
some software and device drivers were not not optimized or stable on the OS.
But Vista has really come into its own since then.

Re: A patch for Windows Vista

A "Service Pack" fixes known issues, it is not likely to be like XP SP2
which replaced just about the whole system and was really a new release.

I think there has been a lot of criticism and some folks I would rely on
have seen quite substantial improvement, but I wish they could move a
bit quicker with it. I didn't have the time to take a useful part in the
beta testing but can we ask what you mean by "Upgrading". You mean a new
machine or keep what you have already got and improve it.

Some things you can consider.

More memory is always good but get the same exact type you have or else
buy a new batch all together if at all possible.

You will most likely need all new drivers for hardware, can be expensive.

Get the best video card you can afford but don't go mad unless you are
an extreme gamer because you won't notice the extra $200 in normal use
but will notice the extra heat and power consumption

"If" we are looking at new machine and you currently have XP I suggest
of you can to play safe and have both for a time until you get Vista up
and running as you like it, saves a lot of hair pulling
