Avast! 4.7 Home Edition is free and Vista compatible. You need to register
to obtain a serial number though.

Re: Virus Scan Support For Vista Beta 2

A search of this newsgroup on "antivirus" will give you a ton of
information.

Re: Virus Scan Support For Vista Beta 2

Like I noted in another thread - avast! and other programs seem to be
flagged by Vista as slowdowns. Careful if you take all of the suggestions
to improve performance to heart.

Re: Virus Scan Support For Vista Beta 2

You do realize any "real time monitoring" AV is going to do that since any
AV worth it's salt will scan opening files on startup and closing files on
shutdown to catch stealth/polymorphic viruses. In both your posts you seem
to imply running Avast is not good just because Vista flags them as
"slowdowns" which I find a tad irresponsible. The performance hit is minor
to say the least (oh the noes, if i dump avast my shutdown time is 3 seconds
faster... what a resource pig!).

Re: Virus Scan Support For Vista Beta 2

Yesterday I got an update via Windows Update for Windows Vista Beta 2
(KB921590) which supposedly addresses a compatibility between the operating
system and AVG Antivirus.

I didn't get yet to try installing AVG Antivirus.
