Vista - One year into Vista . . .

.. . . and I still cannot receive streaming internet media without frequent
hiccoughs for rebuffering.
. . . Vista forced me to call to reactivate after installing a new video
card.
.. . . .Vista remains much slower than XP for all disk access operations
.. . . There is no way to get rid of all reminders about the idiot and
useless UAC, The UAC is the equivalent of your car asking you if you want to
make a left turn before allowing you to make a left turn.

Yes there is, disable UAC:
Start/Run
Type "msconfig" ENTER
Click Tools tab.
Scroll down near the bottom.
Click "Disable UAC"
Click Launch.
Click OK and reboot.

However if you are seeing a lot of UAC there is something else going
on.
Either:
1. You are not a typical user.
2. You are using older/poorly written software.

After the initial software and hardware installations and computer
configurations, I rarely see UAC prompts.

Well, could you give us an idea of your system specs? I really can't
diagnose the Internet streaming issue, but as for UAC:

Right click the applications executable > click Properties > Security (tab)

I may be mistaken, but if you don't not click the Launch button, no
change is made.

The UAC is a wise safety feature . However , it does get in the way at
times . Check this out : 'Disable Annoying Vista UAC popups with
TweakUAC (free!)' (http://www.tweak-uac.com/) I have had Vista only 6
weeks and it is fantastic . I watch video's , listen to streaming music
, play games and never a hiccup !

I found the security nags in XP SP2 so infuriating that I uninstalled it and
ran SP1 until my PC's HD died two weeks ago.

All these even more annoying Vista security nags highlight to me... as they
did with SP2... is how insecure Windows still must be to need them. I
disabled UAC within hours of first running my new PC.

I used to run ZoneAlarm Pro which had a decent two way firewall and an OS
firewall. At least it REMEMBERED settings. But... of course, it won't run on
Vista.

No, I am not a typical user.
I test all kinds of new software from many different companies.
The aggravation of UAC has even convinced me to test other operating
systems.
When I turn UAC off, other things cease to function properly.
I actually found a couple distros I like enough to deploy them instead of
Windows on older (W98/ME/NT) machines.
If Vista isn't 'fixed', the current XP machines will be migrated to the
other OS as well.
It's only a couple hundred machines, MS won't even miss me, but others in
the IT community are talking about alternatives due to Vista's poor design
and the extreme hardware specs needed to make it work properly. Eventually
it will catch up to them.

Vista's incompatibility on the vendors for not being ready and the most
extreme actually blame consumers for not knowing Vista was not ready for
prime time. In their mind MS is forever blameless.

The Jihadists remain blind to the possibility Vista was rushed out too early
before the market was ready.
