Simpler to learn a brand new office suite then to install a PDF print
driver?

We have very different views of simpler, I suppose.

(I am a supporter of Open Office, to the tune of donating bandwidth to
their mirrors measured in TB -- But it's not always the solution)

Try PDF-XChange Viewer. The name doesn't sound very appealing, but I like it better than Foxit. One thing it has that Foxit doesn't have are tabs (at least I think Foxit doesn't have tabs). It also lets you draw/edit/type/ on the PDF file. The site is Tracker Software Products Ltd - Homepage - Products for End-Users - PDF-XChange Viewer
