i think i messed something up...

i can't seem to toggle back and forth between open windows, anymore. when i
try to move from one program to another on the toolbar, the button for the
window i'm selecting just flashes, but never displays the window...i have to
minimize all other windows first, and then select the program i'd like to
display...i did a hundred searches and screwed around with my properties in
order to fix this, but i still can't figure it out...does anyone know what i
need to do to correct this? thanks!

Hi,

I would guess that one of your keyboard keys is stuck, probably the CTRL
key. Try another keyboard.

Re: i think i messed something up...

I think you need to state your problem a little clearer. Which commands are
you unable to accomplish? Alt-Tab 3D, Al-Tab 2D? Have you tried another
keyboard to see if its not a problem specific the keyboard or port on the
computer? Is this a wireless or USB based keyboard? Have you experienced
this problem before?

Re: i think i messed something up...

Hi, Lisa.

ThePro didn't say old. He said "stuck". Even a new keyboard can have
problems. In fact, a new, unseasoned keyboard might be more prone to such
problems.

Even with my very old keyboard, though, these things happen sometimes. Just
yesterday, my Vista stopped responding to certain mouse-clicks. Not all of
them; just some - like when I tried to open the Control Panel. Even a
Restart didn't help. Finally, I Shut Down, let the computer sit for a few
seconds, then did a cold boot. And then, everything was fine.

The "stuck key" phenomenon happens sometimes to me. I don't know why. And
I don't know a "fer sure" cure. But it can be fixed sometimes by banging on
the Ctrl or Alt key. I don't think this ought to work. But it often does.

Sometimes the problem is that there is a hidden window waiting for input
from me. If I minimize each of the open windows, I might eventually see the
one with a blinking cursor in an input box, just patiently waiting for me.

Have you tried using <Alt>+Tab to switch windows? Or <Win>+Tab?

Re: i think i messed something up...

ok let's say i'm in internet explorer, but i want to move to the word file
that i have open...when i click the button on the toolbar to view the window,
the button only flashes. only if all other windows are minimized, will the
window open...so i'm unable to move back and forth between open programs
without showing the desktop first (does that make sense?)....and, again, none
of the keys on my keyboard are stuck.

There exist utilities that force things to be "always on top." Seems
bizarre, but could you have one of these utilities installed and somehow
told it to make everything "always on top?"
