Vista - Backup Problems

This is the issue.
1. I tried backing up my pc using the backup utility. The problem I have is
it errored out and now I can't get it to release data. I can delete files
but not release the space.
2. Something happened to my media***.bin file that was on the D drive and
now is gone.
3. I can't get the computer to restart in a "normal" mode. It keeps
restarting in Safe Mode, which I have tried to change by pressing F8. It
doesn't work. I keep getting the blue screen!!!!
4. Now... everything has stopped working. I only get errors when restarting.

It's all started with the BACKUP!!!
Help please.
