| | screensaver defaults to Windows Logo I try turning off my screensaver and it keeps turning itself back on, going to Windows Logo. I am on a Gateway Emachine W3519 running Vista Home Basic. Everything I do puts it back to this "default" and it is annoying. I click apply after changing it to none, or anything else I have for the sceensaver, and it keeps changing on me. Does anyone know what is happening and how to correct this problem??? |

| | RE: screensaver defaults to Windows Logo I have the same problem with a HP dv8300CTO and it started after the last Windows Updates. This is the first problem I have had with Vista Ultimate since I upgraded in Feb. I am running One Care so doubt it is Windows Defender causing the Problem. I can change the screensaver to "None" Apply and exit. Reboot and it still shows "None" after restart and at some random time later it changes to the Windows Default screensaver while using the computer. It may do it after being idle for the default 10 minutes, but I have not checked. I am also getting a One Care error for WSS in the log every time I restart the computer. You are not alone. | | RE: screensaver defaults to Windows Logo Problem gone now. I logged in on my computer with the actual "Administrator" account and One Care stated it needed to be configured. I had done this before with my normal account (administrator from when i first installed Vista Ultimate) right after the upates for WLM (last Updates from Windows Update). I checked to see if screensaver was still "None". It had been changed to Windows Logo and 10 minutes. Last time I accessed this account (Administrator) it was set to "None". Changed it to "None" and exited, then logged off. Shut down computer and awhile later started it up and logged in with my normal account (administrator, created at install) and now all appears to work correctly for my system. Apparently something happened with the WLM update install and caused this problem on my computer. I do not know if this will help you or not. | | RE: screensaver defaults to Windows Logo Actually, NO. Glad to hear you got your problem fixed. I haveOneCare myself and I am running Home Basic. I have had this for about two weeks and my last updates where about that time. Not sure if it was before or after. I do have WinDef but it is shut off due to OneCare. Any others have an idea as to why this does this to me?? | | RE: screensaver defaults to Windows Logo Problem is back. Everything worked fine the rest of the day with no repeat of symptoms. Computer was put to sleep overnight and I started it back up. It updated Media guide etc. and I checked the screensaver was still set to "None". I ran Windows Update and it showed 3 updates for Live (Family Safety, Mail, Toolbar 3.01). I had previously installed them with no errors on 11/9 and twice more after that as they show up as "Optional" and "All Programs" did not have "Family Safety or Mail" listed. Same results today and no errors. After install finished I checked the screensaver and "Windows Logo" with 10 minutes was back and active. The screensaver "Windows Logo" was set for both profiles again. I went to Live's web page and did a complete reinstall of all components. I had left off Mail and Family Safety when I originally upgraded to WLM 8.5. On the reinstall all components were checked and shown as installed except Mail and Family Safety were not. It installed Mail and Family Safety OK. After it was done I re-ran Windows Update and everything is fine again (so far at least). All components now show up in "All Programs" also. I'll probably have to wait until tomorrow before I Know for sure! "GMANIAC1246" wrote: Quote: > Actually, NO.
