This is not a Vista issue - read more about DOCX on the Microsoft web site. http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms406049.aspx -- Mike Brannigan |

| Windows Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: word documents Excel uses the .xlsx and .xlsm extensions, and PowerPoint uses the .pptx and .pptm extensions. Access has also changed its file format to an XML-based format, using the .accdb extension. The new formats are not backward-compatible. Therefore, people using any older versions of Office will not be able to open files saved in the new formats. Since it will be some time before a majority of users have Office 2007, save files in the old formats if you intend to distribute them to other users, or ensure that they have installed the Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack, which allows older versions of Office to open (but not create) the new format files. |

Microsoft also has a free Word viewer available that can be used to read docx (as well as the older doc) files. To download the docx converter for Word 2003 see the following: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...3-c6bb74cd1466 Free word viewer to open/read docx files can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...C-F4F827F20CAC -- Tom Porterfield |
