Windows Media Player das not play DVD

Brand new Vista computer HP Pavillion a6230n
The following message is displayed:
Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with digital copy protection between your DVD drive, decoder, and video card. Try installing an updated driver for your video card.
Windows Media Center however displays message:
Cannot Play DVD
The DVD may be in use by another application. If all other applications are closed, the video resolution may need to be lowered or the display connection type may not support playback of the DVD.
Third party VLC player plays the same DVD perfectly, so it can't be hardware problem.
Identical computer at CompUSA store plays the same DVD.
Any suggestions?
Wojtek

Re: Windows Media Player das not play DVD

I had the same problem.
New HP a6230n,
Open Roxio MyDVD Basic.
Register with Roxio.
Shut down MyDVD Basic.
Insert DVD, and start Windows Media Player, DVD's now play in Media
Player
