Replacing Vista with Server 2003

New PC - came with Vista.
I am trying to instal Windows Server 2003
All sorts of problems with "Program Compatability" even following the work
arounds as per the KB such as running winnt32.exe directly.

Re: Replacing Vista with Server 2003

Why would you want to run W2003K Server. What purpose do you have for that OS ?

Re: Replacing Vista with Server 2003

You should ask the server question in one of the server newsgroups:
http://aumha.org/nntp.htm

When posting give details such as the KB article, not just the fact
you used an article.
Also verify with the hardware and software manufacturers all your
hardware is compatible with Windows Server 2003.
You probably have something incompatible that has to go before
installation can proceed.

Re: Replacing Vista with Server 2003

Hello Ian,

The only way to install Windows Server 2003 will be to boot from the install
CD. Delete and recreate the partition, format and install.

You can't install it from the Vista desktop.

Re: Replacing Vista with Server 2003

Then send the computer back and have them install the correct
operating system.

There is no upgrade path from a client OS (windows Vista) to a server
OS (Windows Server 2003).

A Clean Installation of Windows Server 2003 is required.
