Unable to delete registry keys

I have two invalid registry keys in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Current
Control Set\Enum\USB key. No matter how I try to adjust the permissions for
the USB key, I cannot delete those two keys. After much machination, I
think the key is set to Full Control for Everyone, but I keep getting an
"Error
Deleting Key" message. When I drill down into the keys, I reach the
properties subkey, and when I right click I get the error message "Access
Denied" The two devices (unknown device & Scanjet 5590) do not show up in
the device manager and can't be deleted that way. Can anyone give me a heads
up on how to delete the keys.

Hi Art,

You will need to take ownership of the registry key first, then you should be able to delete or modify it. Method Two (step 3) will show you how in this tutorial.

Take Ownership of file

Re: Unable to delete registry keys

I was finally able to delete the keys. Taking ownership was not sufficient.
I then had to add myself as a user. Once I did that, I was able to change
permissions and delete the keys.
