Vista Business Adding Network Printers

I am trying to setup a network shared printer on a Vista Business OS.
The printer is connected to a XP Pro box, which is shared. When I try
to add the printer a the following message "Windows host process
(Rundll32) has stopped working. A problem caused the program ro stop
working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a
solution is available". I did find a hot fix for this issue from MS,
but it still did not resolve the issue. Thoughts?? Thanks for the help!

Yes, I had this, apparently if UAC is disabled you cannot install a
network printer successfully. This problem occurs if the network
printer is hosted by a Windows XP-based or a Windows Server 2003-based
computer.

My workaround: enable UAC, install network printer(s), and disable UAC
again [if you don't want / need it].

Thanks for the help, but this did not work. I did disable the UAC, and
then rebooted. Tried to run the printer setup and got the same MS
message.

Re: Vista Business Adding Network Printers

Do you have a Vista driver for the printer? On the Vista computer browse to
\\XPComputerName\printers Press Alt-F, Click on the Drivers tab, Click on
Add. Add the Vista driver. Note this has to be done from the Vista computer.
You have to be logged on as a user that has the needed permissions to add a
printer driver on the XP computer. Make sure the same account with the same
password is setup on both computers.

Alternatively hook up the printer to the Vista computer and install the
driver. test printing from the Vista computer. Now hook the printer back up
to the XP computer and share it. On the Vista computer create a new local
port in the following format \\XPComputername\PrinterShareName

You need to get Vista to use a Vista driver.

Re: Vista Business Adding Network Printers

Kerry Thanks for the help!! I plugged the printer into the Vista laptop
that I have been having issues. Vista loaded the printer without issue.
I then have another Vista workstation that I have just completed the
build. I installed the printer on this machine, setup the share and the
laptop found the printer as a network share and installed without any
issues. Then setup the XP workstation to share this printer from the
Vista workstation. Everything is working great. I guess are lives are
just one big work around, LOL.
Again, thanks for the help!
