Google is your friend:

In short, it's the predecessor to the Core Duo

You can also get Quad-Core processors

Re: Dual-Core Processor

I bought a Pentium Dual Core last week (for a cheap price, $106 CDN) in
anticipation of the cheap 45 nm quad cores coming out in the first quarter
next year of which I well then upgrade to later in the year (my motherboard
supports them).

Re: Dual-Core Processor

Two put it as simple as I know it, the Intel Pentium 4 Dual Core is a
processor soldered together with two brains. Its based on the old Netburst
architecture Intel introduced with the Pentium 4, it contains 64 bit
instructions so you can run either 32 or 64 bit Windows Vista or XP.

It is not as energy efficient or conservative as Intels new Core 2 Duo based
processors.

Put most basically is this...

Your CPU has what's called a core(brain), or basically where all the
transistors, etc., are at to make it function. All the old CPUs had a single
core. To make things even faster, the manufacturers basically decided to put
another brain in the chip. Quad cores have 4.
