General Vista Questions

I'm supposed to be getting a beta version of Vista this week but have some
concrens.

Has anyone had trouble with their printer running on Vista using the
existing drivers?

Has anyone been able to get iTunes to work on Vista?

My computer didn't come with XP disc's, I have reformated once before using
one of the "F" keys during start up. If I install Vista and I want to go
back to XP will I still be able to since I don't have the XP disc?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Some work, some don't. No guarantee

The only way back is if you do an image (make sure it works) of your XP
system before you install Vista or dual boot. Not sure how you got XP to
work before after reformatting, but if you did, you should be able to use
that approach again. You will have to restore your mbr to the XP one.

Re: General Vista Questions

He doesn't have an XP cd. I don't think he can do repairs. He is in no
position to install Vista, IMHO.

Re: General Vista Questions

Do not install Vista on this computer. You should not install it on a
primary home computer especially one with only one drive and one partition
(not counting the hidden recovery partition).

Further, if you install Vista you are very unlikely to be able to do the
same recovery you did before without getting a fix for the boot sector from
the manufacturer of your computer. Vista will overwrite the code that
allows you to start the recovery process.

People have had lots of trouble with printers. You have to determine on the
manufacturer's website whether or not Vista beta printer drivers are
available.

Wait until Vista releases and the manufacturer of your computer certifies it
for Vista and provides new drivers.

Where did I say he did. He said he didn't and I took him at his word, so I
don't understand your comment

I don't think he can do repairs.

I have no idea whether he can or not. His comments indicate he has some
sort of recovery process on the computer which he should be able to use
after installing Vista. He may have to contact the manufacturer for
instructions on accessing it.

He is in no position to install Vista, IMHO.

Agreed

Re: General Vista Questions

Colin's recommendations are correct. Take a cautious approach to Vista b/c
it is BETA s/w.
