| | Re: can my dell from 2004 run the "Full" vista? Yes, it can run Vista, I am just not sure if your video card has support for the Windows Device Driver Model, (although the minimum requirements to get Glass is a 64-MB video card, if it is supported, your experience might not be so good. You need to check ATI to find that out. Overall, its a nice system for Vista, you might want to up the RAM and acquire a new video card. I notice when I had up to 20 windows open on my nVidia Geforce FX 5200 128 MB AGP, it got a bit groggy and non responsive at times. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...&folderID=5712 -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "michael e dziatkowicz" <mnmma@comcast.net> wrote in message news:MsudnWVKXLqVNdrZnZ2dnUVZ_vWdnZ2d@comcast.com... > Dimension 4600 > Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology (3.40GHz, 800 FSB), > Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center EditionDimension 4600 > Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology (3.40GHz, 800 FSB), > Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition > Dimension 4600 > Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology (3.40GHz, 800 FSB), > Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition > Dell Dimension 4600 Series Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT > Technology (3.40GHz, 800 FSB) > WMB348H > [221-4131] > > Memory 512MB Dual Channel DDR SDRAM at 400MHz (2x256M) > 512M4 > [311-9002] > > Keyboard Dell Wireless Keyboard and Optical Mouse > WIREKM > [310-4164] > > Monitor SAVE $150! | | Re: can my dell from 2004 run the "Full" vista? I'm also sure that generally 64MB video cards cannot get Glass (not saying it can't be done, but it's not ideal).. (Do you dream this stuff up?) The minimum requirements does not state that 64-MBs of vRAM is not supported. It said that the display adapter on a PC must support Direct X 9 with Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware, 32 bits per pixel and Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM) support. Depending on your desktop resolution, Windows Vista Aero will set the appropriate resolution according to what your card supports. 64 MB of graphics memory to suppor a single monitor at resolution of 1,310,720 pixeks (equivalent to 1280 x 1024) or less. The only drawback for Michael possibly is performance, that is even if his card supports WDDM. -- Andre Extended64 | http://www.extended64.com Blog | http://www.extended64.com/blogs/andre http://spaces.msn.com/members/adacosta FAQ for MS AntiSpy http://www.geocities.com/marfer_mvp/FAQ_MSantispy.htm "Zack Whittaker" <admin@zacknet.co.uk> wrote in message news:%234mfTVJZGHA.1228@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > That computer sounds great... yet 512MB is the minimum recommendation for > RAM. In order to run Windows Vista 64 Bit Edition: You will need to have a 600 Series or Newer Intel Pentium 4 Processor (because the 500 Series Processor's don't have EM64T), however you should be able to run Windows Vista 32 Bit Edition just fine with a 500 Series Intel Pentium 4 Processor. I said that because I know you've got a 64MB card as you've previously said and can't get Glass... however.. >(although the minimum requirements to get Glass is a 64-MB video card, if >it is supported, your experience might not be so good. Yeh I see what you mean in that - you posted that some time ago, but I stand corrected. 128MB card would be better though! -- Zack Whittaker » ZackNET Enterprises: www.zacknet.co.uk » MSBlog on ResDev: www.msblog.org » Vista Knowledge Base: www.vistabase.co.uk » This mailing is provided "as is" with no warranties, and confers no rights.
