Latest version of Vista

I believe I read somewhere that Microsoft has relesed a new build of
vista...54XX I believe.

I ran windows update, but I still have build 5384. How do I get the new
build?

Re: Latest version of Vista

You can't. It would not be on Windows Update anyway. Participants in the
CPP do not recieve interim builds.

The next version of Vista available to CPP will be RC1.

No new interim build is on Microsoft Connect for TechBeta participants now,
so it appears that you have seen only a rumor.

It is likely that TechBeta is about to receive a new interim build but if
you have not been participating in that program you will not have access.
TechBeta enrollment closed a year ago.

Re: Latest version of Vista

Windows Update will not update the version of Vista.
Build 5456 is the latest build for the Technical Beta testers.
Build 5384 is the latest public release and the build you probably have if
you are participating in the Customer Preview Program.
You may get a new build in the next month or so, but only Microsoft know if
or when.

Re: Latest version of Vista

You don't. Windows Update does not provide new builds. The next build
available to people who signed up for the Customer Preview Program will be
RC1.

Re: Latest version of Vista

Jane,
will there be an RC2?.
I know it might require you looking into your glass ball but I thought
there's no harm in asking.

Re: Latest version of Vista

No. No RC2 is on the Vista roadmap nor has MS ever made any reference to
one.

Re: Latest version of Vista

There may be a New Windows Vista CTP Coming Soon (for Technical Beta
Tester's, MSDN Subscriber's and Microsoft Tech Net Plus Subscriber's), at
least according to the Microsoft Windows Vista Error Reporting Software, it
will most likely Not be a CPP, however, Just FYI.

Re: Latest version of Vista

An interim build for TechBeta (but not necessarily for MSDN) is indeed
imminent.

Re: Latest version of Vista

"at least according to the Microsoft Windows Vista Error Reporting Software"
Be careful what you read into the report.
A statement that the issue is resolved does not even suggest anything is
coming soon.
The most that MAY be guessed is that POSSIBLY the issue is resolved in a
later build.
Since there are regularly new builds that the groups you list never see
nothing can be assumed.

Or did the message specifically state "Vista CTP"?
Please post the exact message for clarification.
