| | DWM.exe crashes with UAC Hello all. I've got an interesting problem. When performing some very specific actions that engage UAC (i.e. snipping tool, running unknown [to Windows] applications), about 50% of the time, dwm.exe crashes. Now, since this is protected from being debugged (understandably), I'm having trouble diagnosing/solving it. Here are my specs: Intel core 2 quad (Q6600) 4GB RAM Vista Ultimate 64bit Dual nvidia 8600GT video cards I've updated all of drivers, so I don't think this is the issue. This first started happening (though not immediately) after I overclocked my CPU (back to defaults now, but still happening). Here's the full text of the event log msg: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: Dwm.exe Application Version: 6.0.6000.16386 Application Timestamp: 4549b7e9 Fault Module Name: msvcrt.dll Fault Module Version: 7.0.6000.16386 Fault Module Timestamp: 4549d2e1 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 00000000000017db OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: c541 Additional Information 2: cee0f0a18f48f40265d6a5cb5749171e Additional Information 3: 23b6 Additional Information 4: d9a48ac0288f7eddc923475806eaae11 I'm pretty stumped and would love some direction. Thanks. Matt |

| | RE: DWM.exe crashes with UAC Just figured it out, but still left a bit scratching my head. My Experience Index needed to be refreshed (obviously after an overclock). Not sure why this would cause this specific behavior, though. Oh well, maybe this will help someone else that's banging their head against the wall. | | RE: DWM.exe crashes with UAC UPDATE (for those interested): This did not fix the problem. UAC acted as normal for about an hour and then it started crashing DWM.exe again. So I guess I'm still looking for some hints/suggestions/anything. Much obliged. Matt "Matt" wrote: Quote: > Hello all. > > I've got an interesting problem.
