Hibernation problems

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit, and am having a problem with
hibernation. I've installed Virtual PC 2007, and since then I cannot put my
computer into hibernation. My system doesn't shut down, it only locks. When
I had this problem before, System Restore helped, unfortunately, this time
no restore point is available. When I uninstalled the program, it didn't
help. I've also tried cleaning the registry (Tweak Now Reg Cleaner Pro), but
without any effect.
Now I'm really stuck... Is there any way to fix this problem? Beyond that,
is there any way Virtual PC will work with Vista and hibernation?

Thanks in advanced for your time and help!

Emil

Re: Hibernation problems

I have been using Virtual PC 2007 for many months on Home Premium and I have
had no problems hibernating.
A few days ago I did an anytime upgrade to Ultimate which required a fresh
install. I have been running Virtual PC 2007 on this new install without any
problems hibernating.
I can't put my computer to sleep as my computer will always crash shortly
after waking up. But that has always been the case with my computer since I
bought it about 3 years ago. I think its a hardware problem with my Radeon
9600 Pro video card.

Hi Gary,

You might try uninstalling your ATI video drivers in Device Manager, then reinstall them doing a Custom install and not installing the Catalyst Control Center (CCC).

See here for the latest drivers. v7.11

Re: Hibernation problems

Its not a driver problem as this has occurred over the last 3 years or so
with many versions of device drivers (from ATI), and also with Windows XP or
Vista.
I will try to install a PCI video card I have, but I will also have to
install Windows XP to try it out as its a ATI 7000 LE card and it doesn't
have Vista drivers for it (sleep isn't available under vista).
Then I will know if it truly is my video card that is faulty. The only other
thing it could be is my ASUS P4P8X mother board, or one of the components
built into it.
