Re: 10 things that sux about Vista

1. Windows Security dialog box
Still a work in progress, actually, I think it has gotten worst in build
5365, I don't like that it tints the screen when a particular program
requires that it be allowed before it executes. On top of that, it does not
take advantage of DWM.

2. Program compatibility Assistant dialog box
What are you talking about? Is it the one accessible from the properties of
the executable under the Comptability tab?

3. explorer CPU usage
Its not that bad in BETA 2 and will continue to be fixed as the beta
progresses, remember, we are still at BETA 1/Interim releases regardless you
see that build tag saying beta 2.

4. Drivers all failed to install
Well, this is your opportunity to start contacting the manufacturers of
those devices and also submit feedback using the Microsoft BETA Client to
ensure that at least by RTM you will have available drivers or BETA ones to
utilize your hardware.

5. No treview in explorer window
Its in 5365 and list view is coming back in RC1 I think.

6. Possibly no option to disable system restore
Yes you can, Click Start > right click Computer > under Task, click the
"Advance System Settings" link > select the System Restore (tab) > under
"Automatic Restore Points" uncheck the box for the drive on which Vista
installed. You can remove existing restore points except the last one using
Disk Clean up.

7. No shortcut for 'Windows Mail'
You mean after installing Microsoft Office? I think this one is a known
issue, you can place shortcut though on the menu by naviagating to
x:\program files\Windows Mail > right click the WinMail icon > select Send
To: > Desktop. You can then drag it to the Start button and it will appear
on the Start Menu Panel.

8. Can't sleep hard disks after idle time
Well, I don't know which build of Vista you are using, it possible you might
need a BIOS update. Options to turn off your hard disk and display are
available under Control Panel > Power Options > Edit Plan Settings. It works
for me. Did not in build 5112 and 5219.

9. No magneta in mspaint
Open Paint, click the Colors drop down menu > on the Edit Colors dialogue >
click "Define Custom Colors: > create your Magenta > click Add to Custom
Colors.

10. 7.5 gig after clean install
This is like the Moores Law of Windows, new versions of Windows will always
require more hard disk space. Have you checked out OS X and Linux, not to
mention Unix? They eat considerable amounts of disk space if you were to
install the entire contents of their disk. Also, I think Windows Vista BETA
has some debugged code that might be removed before RTM which will reduce
the space required.

Hey,

Yeah and of course it would depend on what version you install.

Take Care,

Re: 10 things that sux about Vista

HEY! Wait a minute!!!!
Even the most super duper linux distros can be installed on 2 Gig or less,
all the rest of the space in linux is for the thousands off applications
that come along with the OS!

If you select the barebone OS you can probably install linux on 500 - 800
mb!
Ill give you another 200 for a text editor (like wordpad), an outdated lame
paint program (like ms paint)
a calculator, a media player, a browser and a few other basic apps.

Even MacOSX if I can recall installs on less than 2 gigs....

Re: 10 things that sux about Vista

I've got OS X installed on an ORIGINAL (circa '98) iMac that only has a 4 GB
hard drive installed and even with lots of apps, personal files, etc, I
still have 1.5 GB available on the drive.

7.5 GB is insane. The space shuttle doesn't need that much code!
