1. I did a windows vista update
2. Closed down the computer disconnected the printer usb lead and
re-started the computer
3. When the computer had finished booting up plugged the usb lead from
the printer in to the printer.
It said it had found new printer and went through the process of
installing a driver all be it for a 420 version. If you get a window
recommending you let windows vista search for a driver select yes.
All the above worked for me after many days of trying I hope it works
for you.
