Sound but no picture?

Ive just brought a laptop with Vista on.
When i brought it, it already had Windows Media Center and CyberLink
PowerDVD installed on it, and both were working fine. Over the past couple of
days ive installed Quicktime 7 and i also installed a codec pack because i
was having trouble playing videos that i had put onto my laptop from my phone.
I now cant watch a DVD in either program, im getting the sound but the
screen is blank ( black). Ive tried uninstalling Quicktime and ive also done
a system restore but nothing has worked.
Has anyone got any ideas why this is happening or what ive done?

As many will no doubt tell you, codec packs are a plague on mankind, and this is likely what is causing the problem.

But it all depends really on which pack you used. The only codec pack that I've found that works properly in Windows Vista is the Vista Codec Pack, found here: Vista Codec Package Homepage
