| Guest | Security Alert incorrect re Defender? An odd one regarding Windows Defender - which I'll post here rather than under Security since I think it's a system issue... Setup: Vista beta 2 b.5384 with IE7+ (all updates installed) + Office 2007 betas (all programmes) separate test partition on an Asus A6VM laptop. About 2.5 mins after bootup, Windows Security Alerts pops up and reports Defender as 'not turned on'. Yet: (a) MSASCui.exe is in Startup; (b) Services reports that Windows Defender is set to start Automatically and reports that the programme has Started; and (c) TaskManager/Processes reports that MSASCui is running (the amount of memory is changing dynamically). I might add that 'Real Time Protection' is enabled in Defender settings - and the programme doesn't report anything wrong. What's going on here? Defender is obviously running, yet Security Centre gives an alert that it's not??? A 'false negative'? Anyone got any suggestions/advice? |
