I use Xnews on 64-bit Vista and don't have many problems. It is as reliable on 64-bit Vista, as it was on 32-bit XP. I wouldn't say Xnews is "compatible" with Vista, but it isn't INcompatible. As far as I know, Luu Tran isn't maintaining Xnews and he hasn't made an "official" release since version 5.04.25. There's a beta "test" version dated 24 Aug 2006, that may be the one to try. I use Windows Mail to read microsoft newsgroups, and Xnews for everything else. Personally I love Xnews and think it is the best newsreader ever. I occasionally get an access violation in the RichEdit control, but I got that with Xnews on XP and Windows 2000 as well. It's not too big a problem. I transferred over my entire Agent 1.93 to Vista and it too works fine (again, no registry entries). Since Xnews is self contained, just install and try it. Mike |
