Can you use Xnews with 64 bit Vista?

Trying to use newreaders to block spam posts in van.general
Xnews seems ok for NT W95 and W98 32 bit. Can you use it on 64 bit
Vista ?
Q is "is it compatable with Vista"?

It seems to work on Vista x64 but there is some compatibility issues with
the Clipboard in Vista.

Hi Michael,

I use Xnews on 64-bit Vista and don't have many problems. It is as reliable
on 64-bit Vista, as it was on 32-bit XP.

I wouldn't say Xnews is "compatible" with Vista, but it isn't INcompatible.
As far as I know, Luu Tran isn't maintaining Xnews and he hasn't made an
"official" release since version 5.04.25. There's a beta "test" version
dated 24 Aug 2006, that may be the one to try.

I use Windows Mail to read microsoft newsgroups, and Xnews for everything
else. Personally I love Xnews and think it is the best newsreader ever.

I occasionally get an access violation in the RichEdit control, but I got
that with Xnews on XP and Windows 2000 as well. It's not too big a problem.

Hope this helps,

Apparently. I'm doing it right now.

The nice thing about xnews is that it does nothing to the registry, it
is totally self contained. I transferred over my entire Agent 1.93 to
Vista and it too works fine (again, no registry entries).

Since Xnews is self contained, just install and try it.
