Vista - Help with recovery disc.

Hello everyone. I'm Jon.

I'm new with this recovery disc stuff, so I need some help. I have a
Toshiba computer with Vista Home Basic. I'm having problems with the
computer lately, probably because of something I did. What I want to do now
is just make my computer just like how I bought it, so I can start over
again. I have nothing on the computer that's important, so I won't mind
doing this. This computer came with Vista already installed, so I don't have
any discs to install Vista. Except for the recovery disc that comes with it,
and a Windows Anytime Update disc. The point is, I want to know if the
recovery disc is what I need to use if I want to make my computer like when i
bought it, brand new. And I also want to make sure that Vista will not get
erased on it when I do this. PLEASE HELP. Thanks.

Usually the Operating System and applications would be on a recovery
partition but in your case it sounds like its the Recovery Disc you
mentioned. Documentation that came with your system should be able to
instruct you on how to start the recovery process and reinstall the OS and
applications. Usually there is a designated Function key you press at
startup (BIOS screen) which automatically boots you into the Recovery
environment if the software is on a recovery partition. When your computer
was working, was there a second hard disk in Computer if you can remember?

Its hard to tell, again you will need to check your documentation or contact
Toshiba support if your system is still under warranty about getting Windows
reinstalled.

I do not fully understand what you mean. However, it does say on the

included on the back. I notice you mentioned that you usually press a
function key at startup. The instructions say that first you place the disc
in. The you power up the computer while holding the "C" key down. Then I
have to release it when the screen reads "Toshiba." After that, it says that
the computer will format the hard disc and install the factory image. And
then I have to follow on screen instructions. Once this process is complete,
it says, I must remove the disc and press any key to restart the computer. I
believe that would do it. I am still worried that it will erase Vista. I
really wouldn't enjoy buying it. Please respond again, thanks.

Well you already have the disk then as described in your post above. Don't
worry, thats the one that contains the Operating system and
Application/Drivers.
