Vista - Need a little advice please - Vista Ultimate

I've just added a second HD to my Windows XP computer and installed Vista
Ultimate on this new drive.

I've been dual booting into Vista for the past two weeks or so and
everything works great except for one problem. Every so often Vista will
crash (usually when I'm moving the mouse around). I re-boot and everything
is fine.

My question is how do I go about troubling shooting this problem? My Windows
XP never crashes so is this a Vista OS problem or what?

I did run a disk check on the new drive and no problems showed up.

Appreciate any and all suggestions.

Hi Jim,

Describe the crash. Does the system lockup? Is there a blue screen (stop
error)? Does it simply reboot without warning?

go to System Properties, Advanced tab, Startup section and uncheck the option to reboot on error.

this will then give you some error information when it "CRASHES" which you can then post back here with for help.

No, the system does not usually lock up. From now on I'll have to pay
particular attention as to what happens but I believe it usually reboots.

The last time it crashed a blue screen poped up briefly (similar to the
chkdsk screen) and then I believe it rebooted.

I was unable to read the screen before it disappeared.

Hi Jim,

If it's blue screening (stop error), go into the control panel/system and
get into the advanced settings. Under startup and recovery settings, disable
the line to autorestart on system failure. This will enable you to get the
text of the stop error for further assistance.

I'm using the same ATI driver for Windows XP and I guess I should be installing the ATI Vista video driver when I run Vista - is thet correct?

Just installed the ATI video drivers for Vista.

I then started up Solitaire full screen and it didn't take long before the mouse pointer froze once again.

Other then this problem, Vista has not crashed in the past few days.

Still looking for a solution.
