Windows .net framework 1.1 installation.

I know there are many threads out there about this, but I can't really find a
solution to my problem.
I've downloaded said program to install it, and have started the
installation, but once it gets to the very end it fails and and uninstalls
itself.
Any help out there?

Some noted they had success by manually downloading it from the following

Re: Windows .net framework 1.1 installation.

There's hardly even an error message.
It gets to the end, says rolling back action, and coming up with a notice

"Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 setup has ended prematurely. If this
persistes, please contact Product Support"
and a second one which says
"Microsoft .NET Framework Setup failed. If this problem continues, contact
Product Support Services"
