Re: PROCESSOR??

Check the manufacturers website of your motherboard....or any manual that
came with it?

Re: PROCESSOR??

Hi Dion,

You need to visit the website of your motherboard manufacturer and seek out
the CPU compatibility list for the motherboard.

Re: PROCESSOR??

I would check your motherboards manual, if its a home brew system, even the
box the motherboard came in should indicate its upgrade option. I have an
ASROCK board with an AMD Sempron 1.6 GHz processor and indications I can
upgrade to Athlon if I want.

Re: PROCESSOR??

You may have to look at the website for the manufacturer of your
motherboard. Even if the socket will support a higher CPU, the motherboard
itself might not support it. What kind of motherboard is it?

You may find it difficult to obtain a CPU for your old motherboard. The best
way to go is to buy a new motherboard and matching CPU.

It would be likely that he's need new RAM as well if he does not already
have DDR2, and if he did, it would be slower than the new CPU and
motherboard could use.

I face the same problem here. I have a first generation AMD 939 board. CPU's
for this type have pretty well disappeared now, so the only way to upgrade
is to go all new which means DDR2 memory has to be bought, and a PATA
controller card because I have 4 IDE devices, most new m/b's having only one
IDE port.

It can become quite 'messy'.. :-)
