What tool is it? Where did it come from? Did you download and install it yourself. If so you should know where the file is located. Is the tool a part of your AV software? You mention that the tool is on your taskbar? Where on your taskbar? Is it a quick launch icon? Is it on the far right side of your taskbar near the clock which would indicate it was a startup program? Go into Windows Defender and try to disable it there. If it is not there, you can go into Task Manager and disable it or you can use Process Explorer to disable or kill it. Have you checked msconfig to see if it is located there as a startup item? You really don't give any information so it is almost impossible to help you. Have a nice day. C.B. |

I ran it one time to test my memory but I never saw any results and now it shows up on my taskbar. | | RE: memory diagnostics tool I like you used the Memory Diagnostic Tool & as you say it continues to appear in the Start Up section of the Task Bar, I have not found a way to remove the process completely, it is not listed as a services, and does not appear in the start up programs in Defender. I can only stop the program from running for the current session by ending the process in the Task Manager. Using the Taskbar & Startup Properties> Notification Area > Customise, you can hide the icon. The file (MdRes.exe) is located in the System32 folder of Windows I have been trying to delete now for a few weeks I have not found how to stop it permernantly. We get back if successfull -- Regards Bob J If advise given from anyone, solves problem or not, or if solved from another source, post back & let us know. Then we all benefit. | | Re: memory diagnostics tool Seeing as how the "results" icon (and balloon) that is temporarily seen in the notification bar goes away after about 15 seconds, and seeing as how it is also cleared after a reboot, I surmise that you are using a laptop computer. I also surmise that you never really reboot your computer, but allow it to go into sleep or hibernation mode. By doing this you are likely forcing the icon to be repeatedly visible. Shut down or reboot your laptop the correct way and the icon should no longer be visible. There is no "results" file created! Look in the event viewer to see the results of the memory test. It says the same as the balloon for the results icon shows. -- Regards, Richard Urban Microsoft MVP Windows Shell/User "Debbie Graham" <jgraham1@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:unkyW3MTIHA.5516@xxxxxx Quote: > How do I get this tool off my taskbar from starting on startup? | | Re: memory diagnostics tool I was able to stop it from showing up on the taskbar. It was listed in the task schedule, so I removed it from there and now when I reboot it doesn't show up. Also I do shut or reboot my laptop, I don't let it go into sleep mode.
