| | Upgraded Vista always tries to boot to Windows XP Setup - Have tomanually select Windows Vista Hi, I'm having a huge problem with a system. It's my cousin's, so it's not easy to get to and work on, so I had to make a big trip out to their place to fix it today because of the Windows Vista boot manager. To start with, the computer originally had Windows XP Home. He bought Windows Vista Ultimate Upgrade and installed it, everything works fine... except whenever the computer boots, it goes to the Vista boot manager and asks you to select Windows Vista or Windows XP Setup. So, I figured, this is an easy fix. You got to the system control panel, set 'default operating system' to Windows Vista, and the timeout to 0. Only... it starts the XP Setup every time, and ignores Vista completely. After a lot of troubleshooting, and I'm familiar with the bcdedit/ bootsect/etc programs, I managed to get back into vista. I ran EasyBCD and to my great surprise it only lists Windows Vista as an entry in the BCD file!! There is no reference whatsoever to Windows XP Setup. Where is it coming from, and why does it take precedence over Vista as the default boot entry? It's really irritating to have to manually select Vista within 30 seconds every single time the computer is started up! Thanks in advance for any help. |
