deleting a dead shortcut

running vista premium home edition... after uninstalling a program via the
control panel add/remove program, it left the shortcut on my desktop. when i
choose to delete the shortcut, it searches, finds no associated program, and
cannot delete it. i am unable to get rid of it, frustrated.. must be a simple
answer?

Hi ClimbingRose,

You can try to press F5 to refresh the desktop to see if it the icon will go away then. If not, then try restarting the computer to see if it will clear.

Re: deleting a dead shortcut

In addition to Brinks suggestions, you can also boot into Safe Mode and try
deleting the shortcut.

I haven't seen OP or Brink's message but
