Is it possible to set Vista to operate like Win 98/Millenium?

I've just bought a new PC with a pre-loaded version of Vista, so I do not
have an operational manual for this. I can use Vista well enough but to be
honest, I can't stand how it works (found the same with XP), so I was hoping
that it might be possible to set it to operate like the last decent Windows
program.

Many thanks,

Chris

Except for the more colorful and animated appearance...

all Windows's GUI's win95 and on are pretty much the same.

To improve performance and get ris of some of the animations...
just go into the control panel...system...advanced...
and adjust for best performance.

other than that you can set to appearance to "classic"...
and you will pretty much be back to a win98-looking gui

Well, you can achieve the look and feel by right clicking the Desktop >
Personalize > Themes > click in the Themes list box and select Windows
Classic. To get back the Classic Start Menu, right click the Taskbar > click
Properties > Start menu (tab) > select 'Classic' Start menu.

If you want the color scheme of 98, right click the Desktop again > click
Personalize > Windows color and appearance > click the Open Classic
Appearance options > click Advanced > click in the Item: list box to change
the color scheme to a Windows 98 style.

You should now feel right at home.

Aside from what others have told you, to really get the feel of Win 98 back,
you need to load a couple of incorrect drivers. This will help the daily
appearance of a BSOD.

Next, reduce the pagefile to zero and installed RAM down to 512mb. This will
go some way to emulating the reduction of resources that one would encounter
if there were more than five desktop icons showing and one decided to open
up ICQ.

Finally, use Vista Paint to make up a special blue screen image with a
reference to 'kernel32' being overwritten and a need to completely
re-install everything. Place the finished file in the startup folder and set
it to open maximized.
