Registry Drive/Folder context menu

Is there any way to get:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Drive
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Folder

back to their defaults?
Due to malware, those registry keys were completely emptied (which got rid
of the Open/Explore), and it's impossible to navigate Windows Explorer now. =(

Re: Registry Drive/Folder context menu

I am sure there must be ways, however, I want to mention something
different/strange.

I have noticed a few times and it seems to becoming a pattern that when I
screw my Vistas up and I do it kind of often because of the nature of my
work (I am trying to get better on it in a hurry), so again, when I screw it
up it often repairs itself after 4-5 days.

It is so bizarre, first I could not believe it, but now after some
observations I am becoming more convinced.

Just one option for you is just to wait if you believe in angels.

Now, the second option is this. you have to get to the boot menu (F8) after
you pressed the power button and choose: boot to the last GOOD
configuration. I do no think what you've done to your Vista is considered a
good configuration. This way you may get your system back in no time.

And the third option is to do restore to a point when you downloaded your
malware. I can imagine what it was. I just had two near death experiences.
Others would have blamed it on Vista as they would do if their toilet gets
plugged up.

I think there are a few options in there:

Start>>Accessories>>System Tools>>BackUp Status and Configurations>>Advanced
Restore>>(under Other Options)Repair Windows (Restore).

And yet another option is this:

Start>>Control Panel>>System and Maintenance>>Backup and Restore
Center>>Either in the Left pane: Repair Windows using System Restore or in
the Right Pane: Click Restore computer button.

But as I said the best option might be for you to leave you laptop on
overnight for a few days and see what Microsoft can do for you. This is what
I personally prefer doing. But I have done at least two dozen system restore
with my Vistas.

Re: Registry Drive/Folder context menu

Hi Seven,
If you perform a System Restore and choose a restore point that was before those reg keys got messed up then that should work. Make sure you backup your data first if need be. I prefer a usb memory stick
