| | Error message when computer boots Each time I boot my computer, the following occurs: 1. A message appears, 'Windows needs to install driver software for your unknown device'. The default choice is, 'Locate and install driver software' which I select. 2. I then receive an error message, 'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association Control Panel'. The title bar for the error message is C:\Windows\System32\newdev.exe What does this message mean? Why do I need to create an association to install a mouse driver? How do I do this? I'm very confused about this. What should I do? Thank you. Barney |

I did this and received the message, "Windows could not find driver software for your device". Barney |

| | Re: Error message when computer boots 1. No device in Device Manger has a yellow bang on it and the Device Status for the mouse is, "Device is working properly". 2. My wireless mouse/keyboard are operating normally. 3. Gateway Tech Support has notified me that there is no updated Vista driver for the wireless mouse/keyboard, only an XP driver. At this point I just want the error message to stop loading when I boot. How do I do this? Again, the error message at boot offers 3 choices: 1. Locate and install driver software 2. Ask me again later. 3. Don't show this message again. When clicking the third choice to stop the message from appearing again (or the first choice), another error message appears that reads "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set Association Control Panel". The title bar for the error message is C:\Windows\System32\newdev.exe The third choice doesn't work so I can't figure out how to block the error message from loading. Does anyone know how to do this? Thank you. Mice don't normally need specific drivers, though my give more functions if they have. I can have 3 HID's (Mice type devices) running at once as Human Interface Devices, a wireless PS2 Lyromedia mouse, then I got a very low priced Logitech Marble Mouse off eBay, plugged into a USB it worked, then eBay came up with a cheap Nisis graphics pad, plugged that in it worked, even all of them at once. Nothing else works properly, but that's Vista for you. No Atheros USB wireless USB adapter drivers, printers and scanner no Vista drivers. DVD burner, not seen as a burner, only as a reader, apparently non-compatible chipset in the drive. Vista is a nightmare. |
