Can't right click Shortcuts

All of a sudden I can't right click program shortcuts on the desktop or in
their folder. I get a message that Windows Explorer has stopped working and
it restarts. I can right click folders and files on the desktop and open up
the menu box. I also have no problem double clicking the shortcuts to start
a program, I just can't right click.
