| | Windows Vista update failure. Hello, A month ago I had a problem updating Windows Vista Home premium edition, which was caused by Comodo firewall. Today I encountered a problem installing 5 (!) new updates: KB905866, KB941644, KB943302, KB943899 and KB943411. Did anyone encounter the same problem? If yes, did removing Comodo firewall helped? -- Thank you |

| | RE: Windows Vista update failure. Hi Rol, A while back, whilst I was still using Norton Internet Security 2007, I had the problem of some updates seemingly failing to install properly. They gave symptoms of not being able to access the Internet or Windows Mail. I solved this problem by going into the firewall configuration section of NIS 2007 and setting IE7 and Windows Mail to 'Always Allow' instead of the default 'Auto'. Perhaps something similar happens with Comodo as well, so I would advise that you look at the firewall configuration section. For your information, I now use Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0, and the updates that you mention have all installed today without any problems whatsoever. Then I tried to install KB905866 alone. But after several tries KB905866 failed every time to error 8000405. I have Vista Ultimate x64. |

| | RE: Windows Vista update failure. Hello, Thank you for your help. I already uninstalled Comodo firewall and the updates were installed correctly. I'll install it again and try to do what you suggested. -- Thank you "Dwarf" wrote: Quote: > Hi Rol, > > A while back, whilst I was still using Norton Internet Security 2007, I had > the problem of some updates seemingly failing to install properly. | x64 | Re: Windows Vista update failure. I installed these updates on 4 vista computers today. They went fine on two (one x64, other 32 bit, both wired). They failed on the other two (both 32 bit, both wireless, one a toshiba laptop and the other a modified Packard Bell desktop). The laptop eventually sorted itself out after two hard boots, with all updates successfuly installed. The PB did desktop did not so I restored it to an earlier configuration using the vista disc and then installed five of the updates first, leaving KB943899 out. This went ahead with no problem. I then tried KB943899 by itself and the same problem recurred; 25 mins configuring updates followed by ages trying to shutdown. I used the power button to force a reboot and restarted in safe mode. The configuring and shutting down process then went through in a minute or so and the computer restarted itself normally with the final update installed. Seems to working normally now, like the other three. Maybe KB943899 needs to be installed in safe mode in some computers - no idea why. Rogertaz |

I uninstalled my Comodo firewall after reading a post by someone else in the Windows Update forum. If he would not have posted I would not have discovered the solution. All updates successfully installed once I removed the firewall. I usually just disable my firewall, AV and antispy apps once I have downloaded the updates. I did not have to uninstall my NOD32 AV and my AVG AntiSpyware. Have a nice day. C.B. |

| | RE: Windows Vista update failure. I had the same problems, and did the Comodo V3 uninstall. Then the 5 updates were successful. However, I can't get my sidebar to display anymore upon windows boot-up. I have checked the configuration and it still indicates that it is to load at Windows start-up. Any ideas how to get this working again? The side bar security update was the one that did the failing with Comodo, now it is successful, but no sidebar? Help!
