Vista install hangs

Installing upgrade to xpsp2 with DVD I paid $10 for. Installation occurs
normally until near the end of "Completing Upgrade". Error message states, "
The drive is not ready for use: its door may be open. Please check drive
and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed."
"Cancel" "try again" "continue" buttons do not cure the hang. reinserting
the disk does not help. The drive spins and the read light comes on, but the
installation never starts.

Re: Vista install hangs

Hi jehale,

It probably can't read the disk, this could be due to dust or buildup on the
lens. A CD/DVD drive lens cleaner disk may help. These are cheap and
commonly available at most stores that sell this media.

Re: Vista install hangs

I don't think it has anything to do with the lens. I literally just took the
dvd player out of the box and put the (clean unused) vista cd in the drive.
both are brand new. I also tried other discs after that and there are NO
read problems. The install is hanging with about 98% to go. The disk is
perfectly readable in my other computers.
