In "Backup and Restore Center" is there any way of backing up specific
folders only and not just file types ????

Well, if you want more granular backup options, its best you look to a third
party solution or use the built in burning wizard and drag your files into
an Explorer window then choose burn. Backup in Vista is trying to make
things easy to backup and restore thats why it has such a rigid approach.

Is this likely to change in SP1 ? AT least Business/Ultimate Editions should
enable a more versatile Backup approach ....

You have to understand that when Microsoft plan to include any utilities in
their OS, 3rd party manufacturers are already talking to lawyers re sending
out a lawsuit.
Look at Acronis TrueImage Workstation 9.1 for a backup solution that will
fit your needs..
